How PRAISE Uses Its Funds

Donations to PRAISE supported the following activities in the 2015/2016 School Year:

  • Piedmont High and Middle school’s Word for Word a summer literacy and drama program.
  • After school homework club for children with special needs.
  • co-sponsorship with ALPS of community screening of documentary 2E: Twice Exceptional exploring the lives and education of gifted individuals with learning disabilities or other challenges.
  • Town hall meeting featuring the director of special education in Piedmont speaking directly with parents about her vision for the future of PUSD special education.
  • IEP Basics Workshop​ for parents.

Donations to PRAISE supported the following activities in the 2013/2014 School Year:

  • Piedmont High and Middle school’s Word for Word a summer literacy and drama program.
  • Activity table at Beach school providing supervised arts and crafts, board games and other inclusive non-competitive activities during recess.
  • Piedmont community Neurodiversity Talk enabling all parents to discuss and develop understanding about learning differences in our community.
  • Expanding and updating our library collection of books featuring characters with learning differences and disabilities.
  • Direct funds to special education director purchases for teacher training and added supports.

Donations to PRAISE supported the following activities in the 2012/2013 School Year :

  • Drama Workshops for Home Base students
  • Staff Training, including:
    • Adaptive Physical Education Conference
    • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training
    • Para-educator Training with Communication Works
    • Conference on Autism Eligibility
  • All Day Sara Ward Training on Executive Functioning for 19 Staff Members
  • Occupational Therapy Supplies
  • ASB/Piedmont High School/Home Base Student Pizza Lunches
  • Curriculum Supplies, such as “Zones of Regulation” and Michelle Garcia Winner “Think Social” materials

Donations to PRAISE supported the following activities in the 2011/2012 School Year :

  • Assistive Technology conference for two teachers
  • Michelle Garcia Winner Conference for 18 teachers
  • Dyslexia Conference
  • Playground Equipment
  • Classroom Materials
  • Shared Cost for Carpeting in the High School Home Base Classroom

Donations to PRAISE supported the following activities in the 2010/2011 School Year:

  • Michelle Garcia Winner conference for two teachers
  • TouchMath Materials at the Elementary School Level
  • Materials for the Elementary Intensive Language Classroom
  • Partial Funding for Axis Dance Company Performance at Beach
  • Two Adaptive Physical Education (APE) field trips
  • Twelve Textbooks for teachers on Co-Teaching
